Help rescue rare plants in Hugo

  • Oneka Lake Park 15490 Goodview Ave N Hugo, MN, 55038 United States (map)

We are partnering with Anoka Soil & Water Conservation District and Minnesota Landscape Arboretum to save Lance-leaved violet (MN Theatened), Rubus stipulatus (MN Endangered) and Rubus semisetosus (MN Threatened) that would otherwise be impacted by a new development project.

Conservation District staff will provide guidance on plant identification and proper removal and planting techniques.

RSVP at https://docs.google.com/.../1FAIpQLSdDTn113ct9iy.../viewform

Volunteers will meet at 10am at the Shores of Lake Oneka. Meet at the end of the road, Goodview Ave North, (45.174379, -92.980750), near Oneka Lake Park which is at 15369 Goodview Ave N, Hugo, MN. Bring a water bottle, snacks/lunch, favorite shovel/trowel, and gloves. Supplies will also be available for volunteers who need them.

Volunteers are also needed to help replant lance-leaved violets in St. Francis in the afternoon.

Viola lanceolata plants will be transplanted to a protected conservation easement property in St. Francis after we dig them up from the Hugo site. Rubus plants will be taken to the MN Landscape Arboretum where they will grow in pots for a year. They will be planted at a protected recipient site in 2024.
