Workshop by Angie Hong at 2021 Minnesota BWSR Academy

When the East Metro Water Resource Education Program (EMWREP) pivoted to virtual engagement in 2020, workshop attendance increased from 15-30 for in-person events to 60-100 for virtual events. EMWREP staff have found that virtual workshops make it easier to serve a large geographical area and reduce participation barriers related to child care, driving, and other factors.

Over the past two years, EMWREP has also expanded its social media presence and is working to engage people young and old across multiple platforms.

During this session, Angie will talk about commonly used virtual outreach strategies - online meetings, webinars, videos, and social media - and how these can be implemented to engage people in your communities. She’ll share examples of what works and what doesn’t; offer tips for increasing participation; and lead program participants in practicing creating virtual communication content.
